Procedure A simple outpatient investigation used to visualise the pelvic organs. The procedure may involve a small probe on the abdomen or inserted just inside the vagina. U
Recovery No recovery is required and women may immediately return to their normal activities. You may drive afterwards
Effectiveness Offers good images of the uterus and ovaries
Good at identifying ovarian cysts and uterine fibroids
Limitations Not a good test for detecting endometriosis
May not be desirable to have a vaginal probe in women who have never been sexually active.
Risks May cause slight discomfort during the test.
